About me

Hi, I'm Mariia

Mariia Derevianchenko, psychologist

I'm a psychologist with more than five years of practice, both in healthcare organisations and in private counselling. I hold a degree in Psychology from V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.

I started back in 2020-2021 as a student, working as a psychologist and after-school group supervisor at a private school. The next step was a clinic, where I worked as a psychologist with people with special needs. Since 2024 I've been fully in private practice - online and in person in central Kharkiv.

I'm married, live with two cats and have a real passion for my work and for learning.

My approach

  • A multimodal approach

I combine techniques from different schools - first of all CBT and schema therapy - to fit what you come with.

  • Peer consultation and supervision

I discuss complex cases with colleagues and a supervisor - anonymously. It's part of responsible practice.

  • Honesty about limits

If I notice signs that need a doctor's attention, I say so openly and recommend seeing a psychiatrist.

  • Continuous learning

    I keep developing professionally.

How it works

Four steps to the first session

  1. 1

    You message me

On Telegram or Instagram - whatever suits you. A short “I'd like to book a session” is enough.

  2. 2

We sign the consent and agree on a time

The consent sets out all the terms of our work, as well as the rights and responsibilities of client and psychologist.

  3. 3

    First session

We get to know each other, work out what exactly is troubling you and begin to build trust.

  4. 4

    We settle the practicalities

Together we set the direction and how often we meet.

  • I follow the psychologist's code of ethics.

Questions & answers

Frequently asked questions

  • What happens at the first session?

The first session is about getting to know each other. You share what is on your mind and what you would like to change, and I ask clarifying questions. You are welcome to ask about my approach and how we will work. At the end, we decide together where to start and how to move forward.

  • How long is a session?

An individual session lasts 50-60 min, a couples session 80-90 min.

  • How many sessions will I need?

It depends on what you come with. Sometimes a few sessions are enough to work through a specific situation, while deeper topics take longer. After the first session we will outline a plan together, and you can always revisit it.

  • Is it confidential?

Yes. Everything said in a session stays between us. I keep my notes private and follow the psychologist's code of ethics. I may discuss complex cases in supervision - only anonymously, without any details that could identify you. That is also why you won't find client testimonials on this site.

  • How do online sessions work, and what do I need?

We meet via video call - Zoom, Google Meet, Telegram, whichever suits you. All you need is a stable connection, headphones and a quiet, private place where no one will overhear or interrupt you.

  • What is the difference between a psychologist, a psychiatrist and a psychotherapist?

A psychologist has a degree in psychology and helps you work through emotions, thoughts, relationships and life situations. A psychologist does not make medical diagnoses or prescribe medication. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who assesses your condition medically and can prescribe medication if needed. A psychotherapist has completed long-term training in a specific psychotherapy method. If I see that you would benefit from seeing a psychiatrist, I will tell you openly.

  • Do you work with clients outside Ukraine?

Yes. Online sessions are available from any country. We agree on a time that works with your time zone.

  • Do you work with couples if partners live in different cities?

Yes, a couples session can take place online with each partner joining from their own location.

  • When can I book a session?

Weekdays from 10:00 to 17:00, weekends at 10:00 or 11:00. Other times can be arranged separately.

  • What language are sessions in?

Ukrainian. Other languages are possible by arrangement.

  • How do I pay?

Payment is made by bank transfer to my sole-proprietor account; I'll send the details when you book. Please pay no later than 24 hours before the session, otherwise the booking is cancelled.

  • How do I cancel or reschedule?

Message me at least 24 hours in advance and we'll move the session. Later cancellations are charged, unless circumstances made earlier notice impossible. If I cancel without notice, your next session is free.

  • What if I need help urgently?

Psychological consultations are not emergency care. If you or someone near you is in danger, call 112. Lifeline Ukraine, a 24/7 suicide prevention and mental health line: 7333 (free, anonymous). National Psychological Association line: 0 800 100 102. If you are outside Ukraine, call your local emergency number.
